On November 28 we held the closing event for “Global Ports and Shipping – A Network Project”. Annette Skovsted Hansen and her team presented all of the wonderful work that they have done on the project over the past few years.
On November 24, we hosted a fascinating book talk by Heather Swanson from the Department of Anthropology here at AU about her new book: “Spawning Modern Fish: Transnational Comparison in the Making of Japanese Salmon”.
On November 22nd, the third semester Japanese Studies students hosted a wonderful cooking event for the purpose of social and cultural exchange. The students invited current exchange students from Japan, as well as their professors and assistant teachers.
On November 15th, we were delighted to host a lecture by Sonia Contera from the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford. The lecture was titled Reality, Technology and Power: the deep relationship of modern Japan with Physics and physicists.
This year, our India and South Asia studies cohort came together to immerse ourselves in the joy of Diwali. From vibrant rangoli designs to the flicker of lights and sparklers, all embraced the spirit of this festival.

On 3 November Georg Fischer from the GS Brazilian Studies program was joined by artist Silvia Noronha, anthropologist/writer Camila de Caux and sociologist Tereza Ventura to present a panel titled “Memory, grief, and transformation in Brazil’s Iron Quadrangle: How to imagine post-extractivist worlds in a zone of sacrifice?” at the conference “Transformative Connections: Building Diverse Relations for a Just Green Transition” at Aalborg University, Campus Copenhagen
We hosted the second Research Seminar on Play, organized under the research programs Cultural Transformations and Global Studies, on November 3rd.
The seminar focused on ‘forms of Play’ is several different fields of practice, all conceptualizing the forms of which the playful virtuality and fictionality of the real may take.
